Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This is a combination reading book and toy. In order to accommodate both purposes, the pages are both large and substantial. There are four very thick pages, each with a precisely-cut, egg-shaped hole. When lined up on top of each other, these become a garage for a small, but many times larger than life, red metal ladybug, who is the busy bug of the book's title. Each of the four thick pages has a narrow groove cut into and around its surface to make the roadways for the ladybug to travel. The ladybug needs to be brushed backwards vigorously four or five times to wind it up so when it is placed at the starting post on each page, it will run around the track. The track pattern is different on each page and so is the illustration. One is a flower garden, another has vegetables, followed by a water garden, and the last is an autumn woods. The hollowed out garage for the zippy little red bug is in the lower right corner of each spread. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
