Busy, Busy Trainby Melinda Melton Crow, Chad Thompson
Train has an accident while hauling grain to the mill. Thankfully Tractor is around to help Train get back on track.
Children's Literature - Lisa Colozza CoccaThis level one reader is a fiction story about a train and his friends school bus, fire truck, and tractor. In this simple plot, Train works hard all day moving grain from the farm to the mill. When a log blocks the track Train rides on, Tractor comes to his rescue. Train gets right back to work and returns to the garage at the end of the day. The total word count in the book is seventy-eight, which includes many repetitions. The sentences range from one to nine words, with most being at the shorter end of the range. The text does include some dialogue. The illustrations are bright, cheerful, and fill the pages. The garage scene has an old-timey feel due to the old-fashioned gas pump. Part of the "Stone Arch Readers" series, this book meets the needs of beginning readers and provides an opportunity for success. Reviewer: Lisa Colozza Cocca
