Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The focus is elephants and this board book is filled with pictures of these very large creatures. The opening shows a herd which looks like it is on the move. The next page presents a pair at a watering hole. For each picture there are a few words used to describe the action—the elephants are greeting each other, stretching to reach some leaves, easting grasses, drinking water and nuzzling by touching or entwining their trunks. There are big adult elephants and cute baby elephants to look at. One of the most interesting pictures is that of an elephant blowing dust all over itself. The action really begs the question as to why. Adult readers may want to do their research so they can answer the question as to why elephants do this. (The dust protects them from bugs and the sun.) An informative choice, especially before an outing to the zoo. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
