Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kim Harris Thacker
While touching a butterfly's wings may not cause it to be unable to fly, it will remove some of the creature's miniscule scales. This fact and others can be found in this installment of the "Grow with Me" series, which offers a basic but fascinating peek into the short lives of butterflies. Readers will learn the phases of a butterfly's life, from larva to pupa to imago, and will marvel over the vivid, close-range photographs that accompany the simple text. Teachers and parents will appreciate the book's clear organization, which begins with a table of contents and ends with an index, glossary, and abbreviated summary of the butterfly's life cycle. Also included are lists of websites (one of which was inactive) and additional books that can be investigated in order to learn more about butterflies. While the volume itself states that the book is appropriate for third grade up, younger readers will definitely enjoy it as well. Reviewer: Kim Harris Thacker
From the Publisher
Written at approximately a fourth to fifth-grade level, the text provides an elementary but fascinating look at the life cycle of a butterfly. The magnified photos are sure to attract the young reader as they gain an up-close look at the life stages and anatomical parts of the insect. These full-page photos with captions support a large text so the books can be accessible to younger readers as well.. The books in this series would be excellent for supporting National Science Standard C: Life Science-Life Cycles of Organisms. - National Science Teachers Association

Attractive layout, clean design, and intriguing close-up photos will lure browsers to these explorations of plant and animal life cycles. - School Library Journal
