Overview

Mika Rodriguez has suffered great tragedy during her young life. This tragedy has left Mika sullen and unmotivated, believing her opportunities in life are limited. One fateful day, Mika finds herself responsible for another life, a monarch butterfly that also has suffered great tragedy. Mika cares for this butterfly and soon discovers strength and purpose she did not know she possessed. Mika also discovers the driving force of monarch butterflies: the instinct to return to their birthplace to renew their life cycle in the breeding grounds of Mexico, Mika's ancestral home. Mika vows to help her monarch get home. But the journey to return the butterfly home is not so easy. The monarchs are well hidden in their sanctuary and it is hard travel to find them. What greets those who brave the forested slopes in the heart of the Mountains of the Monarchs, however, is more magical than anyone could ever have imagined.

    Outstanding book!

As a senior citizen, I feel D.E.Powell's outstanding book, 'The Butterfly Princess,' should be read by people of all ages as a beautiful life lesson through the eyes of a precious child. Beautifully written with unusual depth of feeling and soul in poetic descriptions of nature and love in close family relationships.

    Great Family Book

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a great book for kids age 12 and older. It is also a great book for parents to read to younger children. Many factual items incorporated, which I enjoyed learning about. The book talks about the Butterfly Sanctuary in Mexico. Good lessons on idividuality and how to overcome obstacles.
