Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
What the team did for colors in their Good Night, Sweet Butterflies, they now do for sound in Buzz-Buzz, Busy Bees: An Animal Sounds Book by Dawn Bentley, illus. by Heather Cahoon. Beginning with nine bees, when each sturdy page is turned, a fuzzy bee, peeking through a die-cut hole, flits off the page. Various barnyard animals entreat the bees to stay, but the response is always the same: " `Oink-Oink!' says Pig. `Would you like to have some fun?' `Buzz-Buzz!' says Bee. `I really have to run!' " When the last page is turned, a cacophonous buzz greets readers. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Five black and yellow striped bees with happy faces are inset in this die-cut board book. Since bees do sting, and some of us are even quite allergic to bee stings, I was curious to see how this book handled the subject of bees. Rooster, horse, sheep, and cow all invite the bees to play, but the bees are much too busy. At the end, a female farmer holds a jar of honey and thanks the bees for a job well done. There may be a bit of explanation needed by adults reading this book to children, since bees gather nectar, take it to a hive, and then honey is collected—they do not deposit it in a jar. The number of bees decreases from five to one, so the book can be used for counting backwards, but kids to whom the book would appeal are probably not even counting to five. The subtitle states that this is "An Animal Sounds Book" and each spread features the sounds of both the bees and the animals inviting them to play. A bit of a mixed bag—good for animal sounds, overly simplistic in the descriptions of bees place in the honey cycle, and probably too advanced in reference to counting. 2006, Little Simon/Simon & Schuster, Ages 1 to 3.

Warning!  This is not the book that makes the buzzing noise at the end!  This is the mini version of the book that does not make noise on the last page.  Still a cute book, but I am returning it as I really only wanted it for the buzzing on the last page.

    Great Book

I received this book as a gift for my son when he was a year old. He is almost 3 and still loves the book. As I read the book I pause and he say what noise each animal makes. This is my 1 year old daughter's favorite book. All the others kids I have read it to like it. It is also a book they can flip through on their own. As far as the noise not working at the end, we had the same problem, but we figured out why. If you can get the sound to go off try holding the book up to light. It is light sensitive. We were are in dim light, we have problems with it so we hold it up to the lamp and it always goes off. One of my son's 2 year old playmates figured that out.

    Busy Bees

This is a great book and my 2 year old loves making all of the animal noises. I would give it 5 stars but the buzzing sound on the last page only works occasionally.

    Very cute

My toddler and infant love to hear this story and touch the fuzzy bees. The 'buzzing' sound at the end of the story is always a treat for them. The pages are thick paper so should withstand toddler/preschool hands.

    FAVORITE READ FOR MONTHS!

My son LOVED this book and wanted us to read it since he was maybe about 6-7 months old until the present '20mo old'. We would do sounds and then actions for each animal then would pretend to buzz a bee around him on the end page and move the book like a bee. HE LOVED IT...so much that he tore it up. I'm online looking for the mini board book replacement so that he and his new little brother can enjoy it in the future.
