From the New York Times bestselling author of Off the Clock comes a story of love, hate, and the fire that ignites when the two collide...

Dr. Elle McCray has a plan. Work hard. Be the best. And do it alone. After her ex-husband’s betrayal, she’s learned being feared is a hell of a lot easier than being humiliated. So when trouble personified, Lane Cannon, dares to flirt with her, she shuts him down cold. Too gorgeous. Too cocky. And his job as The Grove’s sexual surrogate is to sleep with patients. No, thank you.

Former escort Lane Cannon has spent enough years with people looking down on him. Stupid. Trailer trash. Rent boy. He’s heard it all. He’s worked too hard to shed his past to let some haughty doctor cut him down. But something about Elle’s ice queen act has his dominant instincts perking up and his body taking notice. He can’t walk away.

After an evening of verbal sparring turns into a night of steamy hate sex, Lane’s ready for round two. But Elle proposes a business deal. How better to keep things strictly physical than to pay him for his services?

Lane wants her, not her money. But he’ll play along in exchange for one thing—all the control. It’s only supposed to be a dirty little fling between colleagues, but these two are about to learn a lesson in love…by the hour.

Roni Loren writes great characters, and these two are no exception. There is a real art to turning a character you disliked in a previous book into an understandable and sympathetic lead. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. The sex scenes are racy and may be too dirty for some, but I found them enjoyable and hot. The family connections felt true-to-life, if a bit extreme , and add an interesting layer to their personalities. And the romance was so honest it will make you chuckle, cringe and ultimately, be very satisfied

Roni Loren totally does it for me! She wrote and incredible story with these in depth and complicated characters and I loved every second of it. I was immediately captivated and pulled in. Elle and Lane are like fire and ice. There is so much crazy animosity and tension and underlying sparks between the two and I loved their fight and the hot chemistry that was created. And oh man was it hot! I loved their kink, it was very steamy but not over the top. These two have a tumultuous relationship and I loved the grit and vulnerability between them. I loved learning Elle and Lane’s histories and what made them tick. There is drama and tension, and so much emotion and I was caught up in it all. Lane fascinated me. I loved his sweetness and how caring he was for others and how far he'd come in life. He had is battles that he was dealing with but I loved that willingness to try and better himself. Right from the get go I liked Elle even if she was cold as ice and full of attitude, because I just knew watching her walls come down would be epic. And it absolutely was! I loved their bickering and how they pushed each other's boundaries. There are so many ups and downs and emotion filled moments and it made for this rich story. The writing was incredible. It was such a well crafted story, it had a fantastic build and great details and flow. I loved the layers that Elle and Lane had and really getting to see them develop and grow as characters. I just love a story that fills me up and consumes me and this very much did. It was just a full, solid story throughout with a fantastic ending. I just loved this so much! My heart and emotions were all over the place. Once again the author has blown me away.

4.25 stars--BY THE HOUR is the second installment in Roni Loren’s contemporary, adult PLEASURE PRINCIPLE erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women who work for a New Orlean’s clinic designed for sexual healing. This is Dr. Elle McCray, and sexual surrogate/Dominant Lane Cannon’s story line. BY THE HOUR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from dual third person perspectives (Lane and Elle) BY THE HOUR follows the enemies to lovers, building relationship between Dr. Elle McCray, and Lane Cannon. As part of the team at Dr. McCray’s New Orleans clinic Lane, a former male escort, works as a sexual surrogate for patients struggling with issues of a sexual nature but his past as an escort, and his failure to succeed, continues to haunt our leading hero. Lane’s attraction to Elle McCray pushes the doctor’s boundaries-walls she has built to protect herself from another broken heart-but boundaries Lane Cannon is determined to bend. What ensues is the closeted relationship between Lane and Elle, and Elle’s struggle to see Lane as more than the escort from his past. We were first introduced to our leading couple in book one-OFF THE CLOCK-where Dr. Elle McCray was portrayed as a cold, abrasive, calculating, and p*ssed off woman looking for revenge against Dr. Donovan West-a friends (co-worker) with benefits relationship that fizzled when Dr. West fell in love with Dr. Marin Rush. Elle’s less than positive introduction left many readers with a taste for revenge against our story line heroine. Enter Lane Cannon, a man determined to unleash the pain our heroine keep’s buried deep inside. The relationship between Elle and Lane begins as a work place, enemies to lovers mutual friendship when Lane realizes that there is more to Elle than the hardened and bitter thirty-something woman whose icy control he wants to shatter. Lane’s less than stellar past continues to follow his present including a confrontation with someone from our heroine’s past. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense and seductive. Although Lane is acknowledged as a sexual Dominant, the BDSM scenes are light and limited throughout the story. All of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles including Drs. Donovan West and Marin Rush, as well as the clinic’s addiction therapist Oriana Wallace who has a well-time habit of walking in on the series’ couples. The world building continues to focus on the doctors and therapists, the patients and their disorders at the New Orlean’s clinic for sexual healing. Work place romances become a part of the world of Roni Loren’s PLEASURE PRINCIPLE series. BY THE HOUR is a sexy and provocative story line with two strong leading characters. While Elle struggles with a painful and humiliating past, Lane uses his experiences to further his career with an eye to the future. The premise is energetic and arousing; the characters are inspiring, colorful and encouraging; the romance is captivating, sensual and passionate, BY THE HOUR brings together two people whose must overcome the past to succeed at what life has to offer.

3.5 Stars 'By The Hour' bt Roni Loren is book Two in the "Pleasure Principle" series. This is the story of Dr. Elle McCray and Lane Cannon. I have not yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book. Elle is now a divorced women trying to get over the hurt of being betrayed by her husband and someone else who she was close too. Elle has found herself to be a uptight snobbish person with a chip on her shoulder. Lane is completely different from Elle in that he isn't taking live so serious. Lane used to be a paid escort and now is working as a Sex Therapist and going to college. He is also younger than Elle by a few years. Elle used to look down on Lane but they slowly got to know one another and agreed to be sex buddies. But that lead to their feelings growing into more than they had planned. This was a great book for second chances at finding love! "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

One of THE BEST books I've EVER read! If I were stranded on a desert island and could have one book with me, it would be this one. Not a cliché to be found, smart and realistic characters, excellent word choices, SMOKING HOTNESS, a steady pace and a very happy ending. I am Roni's newest biggest fan!!! Lane is perfect. A total alpha, but he's perfectly content with letting Elle have control...except in certain situations, sexual and otherwise, then I saw his true alpha-ness (and holy moly, you WILL dump your current book boyfriend for Lane). He sees past Elle's hard outer shell and coaxes a different Elle to the surface, in spite of the times she hurt him over the time they were together. Elle certainly earned her nickname of Ice Queen, and I enjoyed reading how Lane helped her take a very different look at things she ordinarily would have dismissed with her iciness. But, while she struggled with the realization that yeah, maybe she should be a little nicer, she stayed true to herself when a choice arose that she simply could not choose the higher road (and I don't blame her one bit...I couldn't have either). An erotic romance for sure (heavy on the "erotic" AND the "romance"), every single moment of this book was incredibly tasteful and full of equal parts emotional and physical. I seriously cannot say enough positive things about this book, and I will ABSOLUTELY, without a shadow of a doubt, read ANYTHING Roni writes!!!! (I received a copy of this book in consideration of an honest review)
