Then pick up this book and the others in the series by Byrne's. He makes shooting pool FUN and the diagrams are the most simplistic, yet clear and direct in showing you how to master each shot. I've read many, many books on pool & billiards (I use to run a few pool halls) and well, I use to sit at the table, with his books open, trying just about every shot he illustrated. People use to laugh, but hey, I am a big guy, I can take it. They stopped laughing and became very curious when I started pulling off masses, jumps, banks, you name it. He even goes into detail about various 'cheat' or 'cheap' shots that are not only useful, but recommended for 'friendly' games only. I the most I played, in the height of my playing days (I'm 33 now), was about 12 hours a day. I even had access to an imported snooker table at one time as well. Without a book like Byrne's, one can be doomed to repeatedly make the same mistakes, over and over and over again. He takes all of the guess work out of shooting, as well as adding valuable real life experience that you can only get from playing for so many years. The only thing you need to do after reading through this book is to literally take it with you, to your nearest poolhall or living room, whatever. Get your stroke down, the finesse and muscle memory and within even a few hours, you will be surprised at how much you will pick up from simple drills and exercises he provides as well. I cannot recommend this book enough, so I will end it here and trust I've convinced you! Go shoot some stick and have fun!

I started playing pool many years ago and had read many books to assist in improving my game. No book i have read has been anywhere near as good as this one.  The book was super easy to understand. He provided very simple diagrams that we not at all confusing to read like other books. and he provides great explanations of what is happens on the table when you are make shots. because these  explanations make understanding what is occurring easy it is very simple to take that knowledge and apply it even even when the book is not with you greatly increasing your skill at the table. I highly recommend this book and any of the advanced books by him for the same reason.

Essential for any library. Understand that Byrne's standard is after 30 days if you can not run a 14-1 rack you should switch to bowling. This is the one book that should be in every interested novice's pool library.
