    Best quick reference out there!

This book is truly the best reference I have found for C++. Many of my fellow engineering friends agree when they see me using this book, they say, 'That book is really great!' Thanks to this book, I learned C++ in one night for a class project and now feel comfortable using it on a regular basis. He teaches mostly by example, and the examples are easy to follow and understand, though not so simplistic as to render them useless. I had some experience with Fortran prior to using this book, but I believe even the novice will learn quickly and thoroughly from this book. Very highly recommended!!!

    Excellent Primer

I am a completely self-taught programmer. Over the years I have read many books. This book is excellent. It is not an indepth coverage of C++, but it is a very good start. I had to learn to program C++ in order to create a plug-in for a 3D software application. I originally started teaching myself with 'Beginning Visual C++' which is not a bad book, but it's a bit thick. Because of the depth of coverage, it was difficult for me to find concise information about programming C++. The result being that I didn't completely understand things like pointers and references, or the differences between them. However, C++ Programming in Easy Steps allowed me quickly digest the basic concepts of C++. The other great thing about this book is that it's a great quick reference. Who wants to flip through a 1000+ page book to get a quick reminder of how references work? Not me. Everything in this book is concise, straight to the point, and very easy to understand. The only drawback to this book is that it has a small number of typos in the section on references that can be a bit confusing. However, these typos don't detract from the overall quality of this book. I still give it 5 stars. A video game company just started using my C++ plug-in. If you're a novice to programming this book is for you. However, I would certainly pick up a more indepth book on C++ as well.

    Excellent Reference

I used this book as a primary reference in a beginning C++ class that I took in college. The actual book for the course was too complicated and I used this book when there was something that I did not understand. I ended up getting an 'A' in the course.

    NOT GOOD!!!

I got this book, and it treated me badly. At first, it tells you where to get a compiler in a link that is no longer working, but I expected that. Second, it tells you how to show a command prompt that the compiler exists, but i had to work around a big problem with that. Finally, it gives you the coding for a small program that says HELLO WORLD, but after the coding, it tells you what each line of coding means, then it skips to telling you that when the coding is saved, it is saved as a .cpp file, WITHOUT TELLING YOU HOW TO SAVE!!!! this book is poop. Only good uses are for fixing a wobbly chair, something to throw at your neighbor, or at worst, toilet paper. I say you avoid this book, AT ANY AND ALL COSTS!!! you have been warned.

    Excellent Book

Great book for anyone starting out with C++. It starts from the basics, and explains everything bit by bit. It tells you how to install the MinGW compiler as well, for Windows folks. Also good for those who want a refresher of some of the more advanced things in C++, such as multiple inheritence and polymorphism. And, for under $10, this book is a true deal.
