Cabin in the Sky was one of the first big-budget Black Hollywood films. It starred Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Ethel Waters and Lena Horne with guest appearances by Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. This CD from Rhino contains all of the music from the soundtrack plus a few outtakes that did not make it into the movie. The future standards "Happiness Is a Thing Called Joe," "Cabin in the Sky" and "Taking a Chance on Love" were introduced in the picture and they are among the highlights along with a previously lost rendition of "Ain't It the Truth" with Louis Armstrong and Ellington's "Going Up."
