English Translation: Marcela is a winner that does not support the servitude of the success. It always avoids the fame and it tries to shelter it self in which it matters to him more. Between her numerous friends, exiles in the cities of the world, she is the watchman of the common memory, the one that know to keep tepid and candy nostalgia of a world that all are losing. But Marcela is also a queen prisoner of its memories, that keep silence from a crime.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
A dose of suspense, a crime of passion, erotic love, the triumph of friendshipthese are some of the ingredients that make this novel by Cuban author Valds such a gripping read. Valds relates the story of a group of friends who live in different parts of the world but who keep in touch via telephone, FAX, or the Internet. It is from Marcela that we learn of the continuous battles fought by these friends when they lived in Cuba as she chronicles their current hopes and desires and recalls how they escaped from prison, censorship, and the boredom of everyday life. They all dream of a place where, after years of separation, they can get together again, and their dreams eventually will lead them to Caf Nostalgia, the popular nightclub on Miami's Calle Ocho. Previous novels by this author are La nada cotidiana, translated into English as Yocandra in the Paradise of Nada (LJ 4/1/97), and Te di la vica entera.Jorge Gonzalez
