Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Cailliou is going to help his mother in the garden. She asks him if he would like to water the flowers, but when she hears a low rumble which presages rain, she suggests that he go find his friend Sarah. Sarah is outside playing with her magnifying glass and Cailliou is intrigued with this device that makes small things look so much larger. Sarah has a great idea and suggests that they play a game of Jungle Explorer using the magnifying glass. A caterpillar suddenly looks pretty fearsome, the butterfly looks as big as a bird, then he discovers Gilbert the cat under the bushes and pretends that he is a lion. The thunder increases and when they hear a clap, Sarah remarks that it is just jungle drums sending them a message. They all head inside so they can avoid getting wet. The illustrations appear to be computer generated and there are additional items in each scene that kids can point to and name on their own or with the help of a caregiver. Caillou is now a TV star and like many other book characters there are additional spinoff stories based on the screenplays. This is an adventure that young Caillou fans will enjoy.
