On their acid rock masterpiece California Police State, Ventura, CA's Sexy Death Soda invoke a diesel-fueled, '70s-style sound and pull it off as well as any of the retro acts attempting to replicate that era. Blending a wide variety of influences from surfy pop to drug-addled art rock, they succeed at conquering all of them. The lyrics are hilarious gobbledy-gook about naked ladies, whiskey, and other such nonsense. In fact, every song on California Police State sounds like it should be blasting from a diner jukebox, though a few of these tunes might upset the customers.
