Student learning is based on these standards throughout the year, and the state test includes questions that assess whether students have the skills described in the standards.

This workbook has been expanded to include core skills exercises focused on the reading, writing, and language skills described in the Common Core State Standards. The exercises have a range of formats and are designed to challenge students. As students gain the reading comprehension skills that will assist them on the state test, they will also develop these broader skills that will help them in all areas.

Pretty good Language Arts test prep

We found this book to be pretty good, since it is apparently in the same format that the students will see on the actual CA State Test. My main complaint is that some of the answers are so ambiguous that I can't decide whether the actual test has unanswerable questions, or whether it is just this book. I mean, they want the kids to distinguish between subtle shades of meaning and even I am not sure which answer is correct (and I am pretty well educated). However, overall we found the book to be worth it so that our son is better prepared and can learn good testing skills.
