Meet the Author

Bobby Bowden

Bobby Bowden is known as much for his affable charm as he is for his championship teams. Having coached young men in seven decades, he is the second-winningest coach in major college football history. Bowden guided Florida State University to more than three hundred victories, two national championships, twelve Atlantic Coast Conference titles, finishing in the top five in the country in fourteen straight seasons, and he also led the Seminoles to Bowl Games in twenty-eight consecutive seasons during his thirty-four-year tenure. The patriarch of college football’s most famous coaching family, Bowden remains heavily involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, annually awarding The National Bobby Bowden Award to a student-athlete for achievement on and off the field, including his conduct as a faith model in the community. Bowden was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. He and his wife of sixty-one years, Ann, live in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mark Schlabach is a national college football columnist for ESPN.com and is a regular guest on television programs on the ESPN platform. A former staff writer for the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Washington Post, Schlabach has covered college football for nearly two decades. A 1996 graduate of the University of Georgia, Schlabach and his wife, Heather, live with their three children in Madison, Georgia.

Tony Dungy and his wife Lauren Dungy are active members of a number of family, faith, and community-based organizations including All Pro Dad, iMom, Fellowship of Chrstian Athletes, Mentors for Life, Family First, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and the Boys and Girls Club of America. Great book about an American legend

I'm not a big football fan, but Bobby Bowden's book is one of the most inspirational stories I've ever read. He really followed God's path for his life and never wavered in his belief in faith through many trials and tribulations. "Called To Coach" is much, much more than a book about a football book. It is a book about the story of a great man, leader and mentor to thousands of young men over the last half-century. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about raising our children and teaching them to do things the right way.

A Great Story of a Christian in Action

I loved the story of how Coach Bowden took his Christian Faith into the locker room and onto the field, and all phases of his life. His story of coaching college football was exciting to read, I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

A must read about a great coach for any college football fan....

Called to coach is a great book about the legend Bobby Bowden. He recalls his legendary career in honest straightforward style. He is a man of true faith who always tried to guide his players in the right life path.He recounts personal tragedys in the same honest style as he does his success in life.In regard to his leaving FSU he relates his position and feelings with candor and honesty. If you expect him to rip the school the athletic department or the administration, you will be disappointed. This in my opinion is as it should be.If you want a tell all book dont look here. If you want an honest story of a lengendary man of faith and class,i have never read a better one.
