Therapists have discovered that the act of being present in the moment can be a powerful tool for overcoming certain psychological problems, especially anxiety. Overview

Although it's been practiced more than 1000 years, mindfulness has been making waves recently in psychological circles. Therapists have discovered that the act of being present in the moment can be a powerful tool for overcoming certain psychological problems, especially anxiety. The first edition of Calming Your Anxious Mind introduced readers to the use of mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion as tools for bringing peace to a mind shaken up by anxiety, fear, and worry. Now Dr. Jeffrey Brantley, director of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program at the Duke University Center for Integrative Medicine, offers readers this full revised and expanded second edition of a book that has changed so many lives for the better.

This major revision includes two completely new chapters. The first deals with acceptance practice during mindfulness meditation. In the second, Brantley helps readers feel safe while facing fear, anxiety, and panic by using mindfulness and acceptance principles to open up to fearful feelings. Other chapters have been revised with the most current research data and with feedback the author has received on the first edition.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Mindfulness is perhaps most simply described as a technique in which a person is attentive in a nonjudgmental way to his or her thoughts and actions in the present moment. This approach, practiced in Buddhism and other religions, has been shown recently to be effective in treating psychological problems including anxiety, fear, and panic. Dr. Jeffrey Brantley's Calming Your Anxious Mind introduces mindfulness to readers suffering from these maladies and other stress-related problems.

    Changed my life!

Mindfulness is happiness. If you are not appreciating the present moment, you are not fully alive. This great book helped me understand what it really means to be mindful. It shows us how to be more mindful in our everyday lives by approaching life in a totally new way. I highly recommend this excellent book! If you like these positive life-changing books, you might also like 'The Ever-Transcending Spirit' by Toru Sato. This is another fantastic book that has changed my life! It looks at things from more of a relationship perspective but it is completely outstanding! This very special book puts your life into perspective and I guarantee that it will also improve all of your relationships dramatically! Have fun!
