Children's LiteratureThe life and times of President Calvin Coolidge are presented in a clear and accessible manner for young readers. The quiet dignity of this man comes across, and his politics are explained in a very comprehensible way. Difficult words are printed in bold type and defined in a glossary. The accompanying photos are well placed and add interest to the text. A photo of Coolidge and his father re-enacting the Presidential swearing in ceremony is clearly labeled a historical "fake" and a logical explanation provided. Also appended is a "life at a glance," including his personal and public life, as well as a list of his Cabinet members. A timeline of his life side by side with world events will certainly help to keep his presidency in historical perspective. A mediagraphy, index, and list of all 43 presidents are provided as well. This is a well researched and smoothly written introduction of our thirtieth president. It's part of the "Profiles of the Presidents" series. 2004, Compass Point Books, Ages 9 to 13.
