Overview

While visiting London, a beautiful young woman becomes homesick for the West Indies. Unfortunately, her only available chaperone for the perilous journey is her rakish, hot-tempered cousin, the sixth Earl of Saint-Leven. Her destiny becomes one with his as they brave the war-torn seas on a voyage that would take them from regal London to the tropical shores of the Calypso Island. And as the fires of battle engulf the world around them, their desire for one another starts to burn.

The second book in Catherine Coulter's Magic series is a fiery romance that is as superb as Midsummer Magic. Moving from Regency England to the exotic West Indies, Calypso Magic is the story of a hot-tempered earl and his witty, very desirable, island-born cousin--and the undying love and relentless passion that binds them together through jealousy, mystery, murder and intrigue. Original.

Meet the Author

Catherine Coulter
Catherine Coulter is the author of the New York Times-bestselling FBI thrillers The Cove, The Maze, The Target, The Edge, Riptide, Hemlock Bay, Eleventh Hour, Blindside, Blowout, Point Blank, Double Take, TailSpin, KnockOut, and Whiplash. She lives in northern California.

Biography

The author of dozens of bestsellers, Catherine Coulter made her Romance debut with 1978's The Autumn Countess, a fast-moving story she describes as "a Gothic masquerading as a Regency." Six more Regency romances followed in quick succession; then, in 1982, she penned her first full-length historical novel, Devil's Embrace. She counts several trilogies among her most popular historicals, notably the Bride Trilogy -- which, in turn, spawned an ongoing story sequence featuring the beloved Sherbrooke family of Regency-era England.

In 1988, Coulter tried her hand at contemporary romance with a twisty little page-turner called False Pretenses. Her fans ate it up and begged for more. Since then, she has interspersed historicals with contemporary romantic thrillers (like the novels in her bestselling FBI series) in one of the most successful change-ups in the history of romance publishing.

Avoid - not your clean romance

As one reader nited, theres a lot of undeveloped and useless characters in this story. However, i guess the real kicker is reading over 150 pages of how Lucien sleeps with his mistress. It just destroys the rimance when the heroine isnt the mistress and he has already met her. Not going to buy another book by this author

    Typical of Coulter

Her books have humor and they keep you reading. I read most of her books for pure escape.

    Romance with a Plot

This book kept me up all night, wanting to read more and more. So, it's definitely a page-turner. The characters in Calypso Magic were very enjoyable to read, especially when it came to the banterings between the two main characters, Lyon and Diana. It has a lot more story than just pure romance, but it does satisfy both parties. The book, all in all, was great to read, but the end seemed a little weak for me. Nevertheless, it delivered until the end. Overall, I do recommend this book to anyone interested in Catherine Coulter's fiction. :)

    Calypso Magic

I will not deny that the story is set up excellently with so much promise in its plot, unfortunately in the end it fails to deliver. Quite a few characters were introduced and slightly developed that did nothing to contribute to the story, like the mistress and the 'old monk'. Characters introduced from other books seem thrown in purely to promote their respective books. For example you learn nothing about why Captain Rafael 'isn't just any ship captain sailing the seven seas.' He just very helpfully shows up, contributes a few cleverly placed lines and then disappears. The culmination of the story is a unbelievable dues ex machina, involving a sudden manifestation of 'insanity.' Its like a bad soap opera. There's a poisoning incident where, even at the end of the book, you still don't know who did it nor why! Sadly, I've read children's books better written than this novel and entirely regret buying it. I give it 2 stars only because the beginning was so promising and I did enjoy it, until I reached the unsatisfactory end that left me frustrated.

I will not deny that the story is set up excellently with so much promise in its plot, unfortunately in the end it fails to deliver. Quite a few characters were introduced and slightly developed that did nothing to contribute to the story. The jealous ex lover does not receive her due - no payoff. The mistress and the 'old monk' are examples of useless characters that were slightly developed. Characters introduced from other books seem thrown in purely to promote their respective books. For example you learn nothing about why Captain Rafael 'isn't just any ship captain sailing the seven seas.' He just very helpfully shows up, contributes a few cleverly placed lines and then disappears. The culmination of the story is a unbelievable dues ex machina, where the culprit is explained by a sudden manifestation of 'insanity.' Its like a bad soap opera. There's a poisoning incident where, even at the end of the book, you still don't know who did it nor why! Sadly, I've read children's books better written than this novel and entirely regret buying it. I give it 2 stars only because the beginning was so promising and I did enjoy it, until I reached the unsatisfactory end that left me frustrated - like bad sex.

    I LOVED THIS BOOK!

This was my first Catherine Coulter book and i have to say will NOT be my last! I loved this book, especially the characters, Lyon and Diana. A must read! This will always be my favorite C. Coulter book. I also like the way she changed the scenery of the book, from England, to a ship, to an island, and then to Diana's home. Wonderful!
