Children's Literature - Cathi I. White
Calling all Cam Jansen fans! You will love reading this book because it is three mysteries in one. Cam is a girl who has a photographic memory, thus the nickname Cam. She also likes to solve mysteries and is quite good at it. In this exciting book, she gets involved with three new mysteries while participating in Sports and Nutrition Day with her fifth grade classmates. The first mystery involves a thief wearing a large red hat who steals from the local bakery. No one can figure out how the thief escaped with a large fence beside the bakery. Not even the police have a clue! The second mystery absorbs all the children while they are playing soccer. The ball is kicked out of the park but strangely disappears. The children search everywhere, but cannot find it. The third mystery has a twist that includes two teens nearby who are engrossed with an envelope that one of the teachers has put in her purse. The whole team's baseball gloves disappear while they are playing on the field. Then the valuable envelope is missing as well. Readers will be intrigued as they follow each mystery and the clues Cam finds to help solve them. Cam and her friends learn some important lessons throughout the day's activities and adventures. This awesome chapter book will keep readers involved until each mystery is solved. The illustrations are beautifully drawn. Mystery buffs and sports readers alike will enjoy this book. Cam is at it again in another wonderful mystery. Jennifer Jansen, aka "The Camera", (for her photographic memory) and her friends help to captivate the imagination of their readers in three wonderful sports mysteries in one day. Cam allows her audience to visualize each instance of the mystery and the active life she lives. First, Cam has to find a missing fence that belongs to the local bakery. Then, a missing soccer ball. Finally, all the teams' baseball gloves are taken. How will she find so many things in only one day? As a Kindergarten teacher I use the Cam Jansen series to introduce chapter books and the excitement of reading. This series is great for boys and girls of all ages. This particular book is a great end of the year book to read around track and field day. It is themed around celebrations and sports. If you visit the Cam Jansen's Super Sleuth Headquarters, you can find thematic units to accompany the Cam Jansen series. You can also find a list of all the Cam Jansen books, along with worksheets. Many of my students have begun to read these books or the Young Cam Jansen Mysteries. Pick one up and you will see the fantasies she allows you and your child to have!!!
