As any student of evolution will tell you, history's primordial ooze is riddled with missing links, a role that this Cal-bred combo seems to fill in today's musical landscape. Young and well scrubbed enough to pass for a boy band, yet angst-ridden enough to fit in with the latest round of post-Pearl Jam semi-hard rockers take Lifehouse, for instance, the Calling create a sound that both swooning girls and regular guys can understand. On songs like "Nothing's Changed" and "Wherever You Will Go," guitars chime and beckon, then deliver just enough power-chord muscle to keep things interesting. Singer Alex Hand's voice, however, is the band's calling card no pun intended, as he proves on jump-for-joy love songs, such as the buoyant "Unstoppable," as well as downcast observations on the flip side of l'amour, most achingly on "Could It Be Any Harder." The formula is hardly a new one -- it's been tweaked over the years by bands like the Goo Goo Dolls, Gin Blossoms, and Collective Soul -- but part of the reason it's endured is that, like potato chips, power ballads defy the listener to stop at just one. Go ahead and try.
All Music Guide - Bret Love
The Calling are a modern rock band circa 2001 comprised of a bunch of reasonably decent-looking 20somethings with a slick, glossy sheen who perform anthemic ("Unstoppable") and balladic ("Wherever You Will Go") songs on Camino Palmero.

    The Best Cd

Listening to The Calling is my calling (pun is intended). Not only is the lead singer gorgeous, but his voice is incredibly amazing. Every song on the Cd is extremely good, so when you have to do your homework, but don’t want to change Cds, this is the one to listen to. It is so hard to have a favorite song, because they are all good, it’s no wonder several of them were hits. The band’s music is totally well put together, and the guitar playing in wherever you will go is so beautiful, it will have you sighing every time you listen to it.

    What an Album!!!!!

I went to buy some CD's of groups I grew up with in the 70's and 80's. The store's stereo system was playing ''Wherever You Will Go''. I had no idea whatsoever what group was performing it. The salesperson told me that it was ''The Calling'', and I said, ''Huh?'' Well, I ended up buying Calmino Palmero, which was the first CD ever I paid over ten bucks for--new or used. I also like ''Unstoppable'', and intend to see this group in concert when they come to the city in which I live.

The best band I've heard in a looong time

I so love this album. Every song in it was crafted to echo a different sentiment, and it had depth I rarely find these days. Wherever You Will Go is a great track, but it isn't my favorite track. That would have to be 'Stigmatized', hands down. No contest. 'Stigmatized' made me cry. I've read several interviews in which the band spoke about how this song was written with gay couples and interfaith couples in mind, confirming my assumptions. I'm not gay and not involved in an interfaith relationship, but this song really got to me. I love it to death and listen to it incessantly. It's just so beautiful. I also love 'Could it Be Any Harder' and 'Unstoppable'. I'm an aspiring writer, and this album has inspired me to start writing again after a long sabbatical. I can't say enough how much their songs move me. Go buy it. I'm pleading with you.

    Excellent choice!

This album is one of the best ones I`ve heard from this genre of music. It contains songs for all listeners. THe lead singer Alex Band`s deep and intimate voice is very impressive. Definitely a good choice to make.

    So different...so much better

Just like many people, I bought the album just for the song ''Wherever You WIll Go'', but once I listened to the whole album, I was blown away by it. I love every song on it. Just like music is made for it, each song on the album are songs I relate to. The album is not only great but the music is so much different and so much betetr than the music that is currently out. The rhytms and lyrics and songs are perfectly set up. I mostly relatwe to the song ''Things Don't Always Turn Out That Way'' and to the song ''Wherever You Will Go''. The girl in the video looks like a twin of a girl whom I love like a sister, if you know what I mean. I strongly recomend you buy this album. By the way, the cd is enhanced. The guitarist is the brother of the elad singer of Lifehouse just so you know.

I'll Go Where Ever You Will Go, Cause I Love The Calling!!

I think this is a great song. I have not heared the whole CD, but they sing just about the only song my brother and I both like! I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame and saw the NHL version of this video! It shows a part of Ray Bourque stretching! Anyways, I hear it is going to be the new ''Theme Song'' to the Stanley Cup finals! Who knows, but I hope it does!

    THE CALLING ROCKS

This is a great cd. I bought it because they were opening up for Lifehouse (another great band) and I wanted to know their songs. I fell in love with their cd the first time I listened to it. When I saw them in concert, they were awesome and I got to meet them all and they are the nicest, sweetest guys in the world and they really appreciate their fans. If you ever get the chance to see them live you should go.

The must have album of the year!!!

I never heard of these guys until a week ago when I saw them perform at a radio show. I was absolutely taken away. The aren't just a pretty package (even though they are nice to look at), they're sound is amazing. They just put so much heart and soul into what they're doing. I talked to them after the show and found them to be an all around great package. Needless to say I bought the cd the next day and recommend it to everyone I talk to.

    Absolutely Awesome!

From the very first time I heard The Calling, I fell in love with them. I was on a mission to find out more and then I decided to buy the cd. I cannot even begin to explain how GREAT of a CD this is. I listen to many, many different types of music but this CD has completely astounded me. I've owned it for about 3 weeks now and its left my CD player maybe once the entire time! I would more than recommend this CD to anyone!

    Gotta Love It!

I`d rate this 100 stars if I could.....hunnies, this is the best CD you`re gonna be able to buy. I love it so much. The lead singer is so adorable (not particularily hot, but there`s something about a guy with such a hypnotizing voice), the band is talented, and the lyrics are inspirational (not to mention mostly written by the band themselves). Good grief, I love them more than Lifehouse so you gals who like Lifehouse are gonna LOVE these babes. I`m looking forward to their next release and I hope it comes soon. You will not LIVE without this CD. Enjoy!
