Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason
More than any other color, green is associated with nature. Therefore, nature is an appropriate theme for a book about the color green. The focus for this book is on a family that goes camping. They see a green fish and a green frog; they bring a green tent and a green flashlight with them. Everything around them is green. What makes this book, one of the "Know Your Colors" series, unique is that it puts the colors in context. Most color books just list objects that are that color, but this author creates a story around the selected hue. The illustrations are bold and bright and emphasize the color while still looking relatively realistic. The first page of the story gives a lesson in color theory and the last page gives interesting facts about the color as well as a link to Facthound.com for kids (or adults) who want to do some extra research. While this is a book for young readers, art teachers will be able to use it with kids a little older.
