WATCH OUT FOR CREEPY CRAWLIES!

It's Emily's turn to host the next sleepover, and she's having a campout! Her dad's going to grill hot dogs, and they'll tell ghost stories and fall asleep to the sounds of crickets chirping. Fun!

But Taylor isn't as excited as the others. Sure, she loves parties and is always up for new adventures...but she also has a secret that she's kind of embarrassed about. She's afraid of bugs! She knows she can tell her friends the truth, but they're really looking forward to sleeping in a tent. Taylor doesn't want to ruin their fun, but she's really scared to sleep outside.

Will Taylor be able to make it through the night?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tina Selvaggi
The Sleepover Squad is made up of four friends who are in second grade about to go into third grade. Their names are Taylor, Emily, Jo, and Kara. During this title in the series, it is Emily's turn to be the hostess for the group's regular sleepover. She decides the girls will camp out and enjoy all the things that go with it. These activities include sleeping in a tent, grilling hot dogs, playing croquet, and telling ghost stories. Taylor, the "tough one" of the group, has a problem. She is afraid of bugs! She worries that a creepy crawly bug will climb on her in the middle of the night. She does everything she can to avoid going outside that night because she does not want to admit her fear to her friends. She makes it through the eating and ghost stories and tries to keep everyone awake with her, but one by one everyone falls asleep, including Taylor. She screams in the middle of the night when she thinks she is being visited by a bug. It turns out Emily's cat Mi-Mo, has brushed Taylor with her tail. Emily admits her problem and the girls rearrange their sleeping bags so Taylor's is in the middle so they can protect her. The book ends with a checklist of "Camping Dos and Don'ts." It is a very engaging story with characters that girls will enjoy reading about again and again.
School Library Journal

Gr 2-4 In the first book, Taylor is having a sleepover to celebrate the end of second grade, and Emily knows that her parents will say that she is too young to go. She has a major meltdown, and her friends suggest that she apologize for her behavior and try to act more mature so her parents will change their minds. Of course, they do. Of course, the sleepover is fantastic. In the second title, Emily hosts the sleepover in her backyard-tent and all. Now Taylor has the problem-she is afraid of bugs. Will she overcome her fear, share with her friends, and have a great time at the party? You bet she will. These easy chapter books have no character or plot development, the author uses far too many adjectives, the girls' behavior is not always age-appropriate.-Susan Lissim, Dwight School, New York City
