About the Author

Charles M. Williams was born and raised in a small country town called Hattonsville. It is a suburb of Portsmouth, Virginia. He is the 3rd born in a family of eight children. He recalls his parents telling him that he started drawing the moment he picked up a pencil. Charles graduated from IC Norcom High School where he was taught by two of his major influencers, Mrs. Josephine Wimbush in English Literature and Mr. Everett Winrow, an artist in his own right. After graduating from high school, Charles was awarded a scholarship for ROTC, which was one of several other scholarships for art. He graduated from Norfolk State University (NSU) and was Commissioned into the Army. Along the way, he attended classes at Old Dominion University, also in Norfolk, and Pratt Institue in New York. After a two-year assignment in Germany, he returned to the states where he was honorably discharged from the Army. He returned to NSU and received a degree in Art Education. Charles taught in the Norfolk Public School System for three years and later was appointed Artist-in-Residence. Shortly afterwards, he was employed by Ford Motor Company where he retired in 2007 as a Risk Manager.

Throughout his many travels, his constant companion has been and continues to be art. Charles managed to intertwine it into most of his professional job assignments. He is the recipient of numerous awards in painting and drawing and his work can be found in collections around the world. He continues to chase a challenge which was written in his high school Senior Memories book from Mrs. Wimbush. "We have never made a statue worthy of our dreams." Charles had one son who passed away in mid 2024. That son gifted him with six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Charles has made the Commonwealth of Kentucky his home since 1998.
