This book has less to do with basketball than with the sophomorice ramblings of a not clever author.

This book is not a collection of essays that have to deal with what it is like to play basketball professionally. What it is is a interesting look at the type of existence a journeyman professional basketball player endures. Paul Shirley fills his experience with vivid detail and razor sharp wit. Any fan of the NBA game will welcome his insights into the inner workings of a franchise as well as see what it is like to play in Europe. All in all, a solid sports title that expands the genre.

I have read Paul's diaries on ESPN and this book is a great extention of those diaries. Not only is he witty and smart, he gives wonderful insight into the life of a basketball player who has been to so many different leagues.

Overview
He’s been called a journeyman. Even Paul wouldn’t dispute that classification. Regardless, Bill Simmons, ESPN.com’s “The Sports Guy,” has said of Paul Shirley, “We could finally have an answer to the question ‘What would it be like if one of our friends was an NBA player?”There’s no denying that Paul Shirley is the closest thing pro basketball’s got to Odysseus. In Homeric fashion, he has logged time practically everywhere in the roundball universe, from six NBA cities to pro leagues in Spain and Greece to North America’s pro ball Siberia, the minor leagues. Hell, he’s even played in the real Siberia. And in Can I Keep My Jersey?, Shirley finally puts ...
