In 1945 US soldiers received a copy of 'Can the Germans be Re-educated?' before entering Germany. It explained the impact Nazi propaganda had on the German people and how they might be reeducated. The information was designed to assist the US soldier in dealing with a brainwashed and morally bankrupt people. This pamphlet gives a snapshot of life in Germany at the end and after WW2.
The issue of reeducation was part of America's occupation policies. It included denazification, restructuring of the school system, university reform, and cultural exchange.
