Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Justina Engebretson
Beware! Those who enter the lair of Count Dracula will be changed forever. In this middle reader, a part of the "Choose Your Path" series, the classical tale is presented to young readers with a fresh new spin. Readers will get to determine how their encounter with Count Dracula will end instead of following what might be an author's choice. Whether readers get out alive or not will depend on the choices made. These choices will take them on many twists and turns, moving them forwards and backwards, backwards and forwards through the pages; a bookmark is highly recommended. Regret? Doom? Triumph? All are possible but the reader must choose wisely in order to determine a successful outcome. With so many different possibilities and choices, this page-turning suspense draws the reader in as sure as Dracula's piercing stare. It will not be enough to read this book only once. Rather readers will feel the pull to go back and choose a different path to see what fate it will hold. This book will appeal to elementary students who enjoy vampire tales, a scary read, or playing the role of the main character. With just the right amount of horror, this book is appropriate a young audience, as it lacks the blood and gore more common in vampire tales today. Reviewer: Justina Engebretson
