Overview

CANAL HOUSE COOKING, VOLUME N 2, FALL & HOLIDAY is filled with recipes that will make you want to run into the kitchen and start cooking. It is a collection of our favorite fall and holiday recipes. We are home cooks writing about home cooking for other home cooks. Our recipes are easy to prepare, and completely doable for the novice and experienced cook alike. Foods of the holidays are classics, tied to tradition and memory. We cook our grandmothers', aunts', and mothers' recipes to bring them to life and invite the people we miss to the table again. For us, it wouldn't be a holiday without Neenie's Sourdough-Sage Stuffing, or Jim's Roast Capon, or Peggy's Grand Marnier Soufflé. But no matter what your menu, the most important thing is to join together for a meal and share the intimacy of the table.

Canal House Cooking, Volume N 2, Fall & Holiday is the second book of our award-winning series of seasonal recipes. We publish three volumes a year: Summer, Fall & Holiday, and Winter & Spring, each filled with delicious recipes for you from us. Cook all year long with Canal House Cooking!

Title: Canal House Cooking Volume No 2 - Fall and Holiday Author: Christopher Hirshheimer Published: 7-19-2011 Publisher: Open Road Media Pages: 129 Genre: Cooking; Food & Wine Sub Genre: Cookbooks; Christmas; Entertainment; Holidays; Seasonal ISBN: 9781453219386 ASIN: B00879VF60 Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 4 Stars . As I rarely drink myself I found the idea of discussing getting drunk how the wine or mixed drinks tasted in irresponsible whether you planned on becoming inebriated or not. Knowing your limits and going beyond them and feeling a nice hazy buzz is irresponsible. No mature adult should indulge pass their personal limits. The into put me off this book to where I put it away and had to come back to it later. Which would have been a shame because I did enjoy the recipes. Easy to follow and reproduce and most of the ingredients were available locally and as I travel to Atlanta often I usually stock up on the harder to obtain ones there. Last Thanksgiving I wanted to try something different and pulled up the Canal House Cookbooks to look over and then came to the Fall and Holiday edition and began perusing the recipes. I ended up trying the Duck with Apples and Onions and Sweet Potato Pie to rave reviews. A few weeks later I pulled it out again and tried s few of the other recipes that interested me such as the Chocolate Gingerbread, Watercress Salad and Little Yorkshire Puddings. I think I need to try the puddings again and adjust to higher altitude. I gave it a 4 star rating because of the intro, Maybe that is a personal aversion on my part, but it is my review. I do recommend this cookbook for those who want recipes that find their way into our homes over the holidays that are tasty and fun to reproduce.

The recipes in this book sound amazing!  I love the article "Getting Drunk" by Colman Andrews.  It's brilliant!  The email from one author to the other was pretty great too!  Even though most of these recipes are not what I would consider "every day" food, they still look and sound delicious! Received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
