The rippling water in a silver bowl stills, and Lady Xanthe Simms and her huge white cat Titus see the image of the desperate young lady. But desperation and wishes are what keep life busy and entertaining for the resourceful fairy godmother. I enjoyed this romantic fairy tale that took place when the class system was the rule of the day. Phoelbe, a school teacher for teenage girls, not only teaching books, but grace, life skills to the upper class. Phoelbe's life goal was to find another position for work, to help support her brother in school. Things change when one young girl with a romantic notion for love got Phoelbe fired from her job, this gave her Fairy god mother Lady Xantle, an opportunity to help Phoelbe time for her coming out time in London, and to help her find a husband. Lady Xantle could help set up the situations, but Phoelbe had to make the moves to find who she wishes to have. This is a good read, you can go back in time and see how the class system selected their husbandws. Very interesting and vivid writing..

Right out of the pages of Cinderella comes Xanthe the enchanting

Right out of the pages of Cinderella comes Xanthe the enchanting Fairy Godmother. For Phoebe and Miles she is the answer to a wish made over the light of a candle. What fun characters! It was a sweet, enchanting and lovely story. One that warms the heart and the imagination. To all the girls who want a Fairy godmother to come into their lives with the magic of love and romance this books is for you. There are actually two more books in the series. You won't be sorry you embarked upon this whimsical adventure with the winged Fairy Godmother, Xanthe. This is the first book I have read from Janice Bennett but I intended to order the rest in the series.

    Quirky fun...........................

I'm not usually a fantasy fan but this story about a down and out school teacher having her wish come true was to well written to ignore. Down and out school teacher gets her shot at finding true love if she can only figure out the frogs from the princes. Enjoyable reading.

    definitely recommend

If you like sweet "cinderella faery god mother" type stories with a Victorian England twist, you will like this one. PG rated...only because of the "kissing"

Really cute book, you should check it out!

This is a very nice read. Fast, page turner, with well drawn out characters and plausible situations, even if you don't believe in magic... luckily I do believe that magic can happen when the right 2 people meet. Definitely a good book, would make a great beach book!
