Overview

The Candlestone is a contemporary fantasy novel, the second in a series of audio books for pre-teens and young adults. This series inspires young people to pursue faith, courage, and love and to dig deep within to find their God-given strengths, no matter how difficult the circumstances. The first book, Raising Dragons, plunged two teenagers, Billy Bannister and Bonnie Silver, into mind-boggling mysteries, life or death pursuits, and deadly sword-to-sword battles. In The Candlestone, a mysterious book leads Billy into mortal combat with a powerful dragon slayer. Separated from his friends and finding his dragon traits useless against this enemy, he has to rely on new weapons, a sword and shield he cannot even see. A scientist lures Bonnie to his laboratory with amazing news—her mother is still alive! He sends her to retrieve her mother from the candlestone, that strange, paralyzing gem that absorbs light and with it, the strength of dragons and their offspring. Billy and Bonnie face their greatest fears as they battle powerful enemies, ancient fiends from times long past, and the horrors of the blackest of prisons, captivity within the walls of unearthly darkness—the crystalline tomb of the candlestone.

This story proiveds many mysteries and the final discovery of them is pretty cool. Filled with spiritual truth, epic battles, and humor the Candelstone is a must read!

This book started it all for me...

This was the first book that I read from the series, and it drew me in like nothing else I'd ever read before. The characters are captivating, especially Bonnie, who I instantly fell in love with. The Candlestone opened up a door for me to enjoy a series that quickly became my favorite, and not only that, it led me to Bryan Davis' fan forum where I made lifelong friends, and was able to meet the man himself. Through my friendship with Bryan Davis I have learned tons about life, and God, and am eternally grateful for his passion and his obedience to God.

    Captivating Book!

As Bonnie is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the date that she is adopted by the Foleys, the unthinkable happens. Her father shows up and tells her that her mother is alive! Bonnie follows her father, hoping to see her mother again. Her father tells her that her mother was sent into a candlestone (dragon's bane) and that her mother is trapped inside. Little does she know that an evil dragon slayer lurks very near by. Will she find her mother? Will she be able to evade her foes? I love this book and recommend it to any fantasy lover! Bonnie's strength, courage, and faith is really inspiring. I love when Billy reads what she said about him in her journal. A reader will be crying or or the edge of their seats at the climaxes, on the floor laughing at the funny things said, and be inspired.

Enter a World of Light and Darkness

Billy and Bonnie are resting after the action in Raising Dragons when the return of Bonnie¿s father signals the beginning of a new adventure. Can Bonnie trust the man who betrayed her mother to the slayers? The amazing scientific process of translumination creates a vibrant world inside a light-absorbing gem known as the candlestone. Want to know more? Enter The Candlestone and explore a world of danger, mystery, and sacrifice. I liked how this book emphasized faith, trust and truth. It contains a nice blend of emotions, humor and action.

    My review

The Candlestone by Bryan Davis is my favorite out of the Dragons in our Midst series. The entire series is full of adventure, religion, and triumph of good verses evil. Bryan Davis has created an enchanting world, with characters rich in personality and real emotion. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a real adventure story. This book combines the stories we grew up with, the virtues we were taught as children, and an amazing storyline that keeps you entranced. The characters face problems with unnerving faith and set a great example for people of all ages.

A GREAT book in the continuation of the series!

I felt as if I was with Bonnie on her journey through the darkness of the candlestone. The descriptions of her many predicaments never failed to awe and amaze me. Bravo, Mr. Davis!

One of the best books ever!

As Billy Bannister searches to find out more about the mythical sword Excalibur, Bonnie Silver meets a past acquaintance who gives her shattering news: her mother is still alive. Awesome work, Mr. Davis, another stunning DIOM book!

If you thought Raising Dragons was good then you HAVE to get The Candlestone! The thing about the Dragons in our Midst series: the books keep getting better as the series progresses and Mr. Davis comes up with a whole new idea for each book. This is the kind of book that you will want to read again, and again, and againâ⿬¦

    A Spot-On Sequel

While most sequels disappoint, this one certainly doesn¿t. It is a wonderful fantasy book, with just a tinge of science fiction, something that wasn¿t in the first book, and the supernatural, something that was touched on in the first book, but expanded in The Candlestone. This book is an amazing story of faith, redemption, and love. Bonnie is the shining example of faith throughout the book, as well as love and forgiveness. Those last ideas are being shown to her father, who did not act as a father should, such as putting his child¿s best interest before his own. This is an amazing book, and I recommend it to all fantasy-book lovers from age 13 and up.
