Children's Literature - Judy Silverman
There is a place in the world for everybody. Even an ugly, fat little dog with a stumpy tail can find somewhere to go, somebody who will accept her, and something special to do. Simp is this dog. Abandoned in a garbage dump, she is picked up by the Dogcatcher and brought to the Pound. She escapes and wanders until she finds a circus, where the clown lets her stay with him. She is curious and clever and she soon finds a way both to help her new friend and to give herself a job. Everyone is happy at the end, and Simp has earned her new name. Burningham's pictures are just right for this enchanting little story. 1994 (orig.

Forget the age range for this book. I am 34 years old and I still love Cannonball Simp. This book was read to me as a child by my mother and it brings back a touch of nostalgia every time I lay eyes on it.
