Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jamie Hain
This book presents not only the safety guidelines and instructions on how to successfully canoe safely and responsibly, but also includes a brief overview of the history of canoeing. As a canoe instructor, I find the description of paddle strokes and techniques very detailed, but I am disappointed there are no illustrations focusing on the correct way to hold a paddle or execute the paddle strokes. While this book provides an excellent introduction to the sport of canoeing, it should not be used in place of a basic canoeing class. This book would be a great resource for schools, camps, and programs that offer canoeing as an activity, as well as for anyone interested in learning more about the sport. Part of "The Great Outdoors" series, this book contains an easy-to-make snack recipe for a canoe trip, a glossary of canoeing specific terms, and a list of resources both on and off-line where interested readers can find more information.
