Just the right balance between technical detail and an engaging perspective on digital photography with the EOS system.

Serge Timacheff has produced the one book that rightfully serves as the "go to" reference for the working photographer or dedicated hobbyist that uses Canon EOS system of bodies, lenses and lighting. The book is exceptionally well-structured for the reader who wants to solve a specific problem or explore new features on site. While clearly specific to the EOS family of camera systems, the book will appeal to a broad range of digital photographers who would benefit from Serge's experience, the depth of his explanations and the practical relevance of his recommendations in a broad spectrum of situations from fast action sports photography at world-class fencing events to the subtleties of portrait shots in the field.
Sections of this reference text on camera system maintenance, lens selection and component "buttonolgy" are inevitably useful, refreshingly detailed and consistently relevant. Using Serge's book to learn how to reprogram the function of a more accessible button, I was able to devise a solution to a perplexing challenge I had with using a Canon XTi to cover a local fencing tournament when I had a broken right arm, making focus and zoom control almost unmanageable with one hand.
The photographs used to illustrate the book are a testament to the author's skills and are clear examples of what can be accomplished with this encyclopedia of creative possibilities for users of the EOS systems. It's the one book that will inevitably become the volume that stays in my camera bag and gets dog-eared from frequent use.
