The waiting is the hardest part of the holiday, at least for former presidential candidate Huckabee when he was a child. Weeks before Christmas, young Mike is so eager to know if one of the gifts under the tree is his much-desired football that he's about to burst. He hatches a plan, drawing his older sister into cahoots, to surreptitiously find out. But keeping the secret from Mom and Dad is harder still. Huckabee's lighthearted cautionary tale is buoyed by zippy digital illustrations that convey both its humor and warmth. Ages 4–8. (Oct.)

The author is the former Governor of Arkansas and a runner-up in the GOP presidential 2008 primary. In the dedication Mike indicates that this is a story about him and his sister Pat and their impish scheme to find out what their Christmas gifts are before Christmas day. Mike desperately wanted to know if he got the football he wanted and Pat was curious as to whether she got a chemistry set. So he hatched a plan with his sister Pat. They would carefully unwrap the presents and play with them. Then Pat would carefully rewrap them and their parents would never know. All went well until Christmas morning actually came. They opened their gifts while their parents watched. Unfortunately the football had mud on it, and Pat's chemistry set had a dirty beaker. The joy of Christmas was shattered. Mike Huckabee

Mike Huckabee won eight states and more than four million votes during the 2008 Republican presidential primaries. He served as the governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007 and as lieutenant governor from 1993 to 1996. Before politics, he worked in broadcasting and advertising and spent twelve years as a pastor and denominational leader. He lives with his wife, Janet, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. They have three grown children, three dogs, and at least that many friends!

    learning the joys and paience of christmas

    cant wait till christmas is a wonderful childrens book that governor mike huckabee writes about his early childhood years from christmas and how he and his sister learned a wonderful lesson about paience and family the illustrations are very beautiful and very colorful and is good for adults to read also great gift idea for a family or friend or donation to church or school library.
