More About This Book

Overview

Cape Cod and its neighboring islands, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, possess extraordinary beauty. Magnificent ocean vistas, spectacular sand dunes, quiet marshes, and historic seaside villages, bring people back year after year. For the inquiring visitor the remarkable stories of courage and enterprise by those who settled the land and shaped its character provide background for thoughtful reflection. This stunning new book features fifty of Kathryn Kleekamp's original oil paintings depicting land and seascapes along with rare historic photographs. Image and text capture the fundamental nature of this remarkable area: the heartbeat of those who farmed the land, fished the seas, captained the great schooners, or waited at home for a loved one's return. The historic vignettes explore major influences that made Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard what they are today. Traditional Cape and Island recipes found here are another link to the present from the past.

A 'Must Have' book on Cape Cod and the Islands

This book about Cape Cod and the Islands is beyond perfection. It is magnificent. It is so very superior to all other books of its kind. Paintings, photos, text - all are superior. It is a true masterpiece. It is obvious that a great deal of research and years of work went into this book.
I recommend this very informative book as the perfect gift book or just a good read for yourself. I have always enjoyed Kathryn Kleekamp's paintings and prints of the Cape and the Islands and now she has proven herself to be an excellent and entertaining writer.

The Perfect Gift From Cape Cod

This is a magical book. Combining 50 of the author's original paintings with a text which takes you to some of Cape Cod's well known and less well known corners, "Cape Cod And The Islands" makes the ideal gift. So far we have send copies to friends in Iceland, Denmark and Norway. The response from Norway was that they want to come here in October to see the cranberry harvest! You will enjoy this book.

    Treasure found on Cape Cod!

Having vacationed with my family at the Cape every summer for nearly twenty years, I was surprised and delighted to learn so many new facts about the Cape from this book. Fans of american history would certainly be enthralled with it - but that's assuming they'll be able to take their eyes off the stunning images long enough to read the text. The artwork is wonderful: serene, but incredibly detailed, and engendered with great regard for the beauty of nature. In short, Kleekamp's artwork is a pictorial answer to why you love the Cape, and the reading the rich text is like finding hidden treasure in the beautifully depicted landscape. A great find!

    Quality Throughout

I pre-ordered three copies several weeks back and, I have to tell you, the quality of the pictures, paintings, recipes--everything about this book--is beyond any expectation I may have had. This book is truly stunning in every way.

I would pay double the $29.99 retail price for a coffee table book of this caliber. Congratulations to Kathy on her magnificent effort. I can't think of enough superlatives to make my point about the excellence of this book, but I think you get the idea.

What a beautiful, intriguing book! Filled with photos, sketches, and paintings to go along with history and some recipes scattered throughout. This is much more about the beauty and history of the Cape than about the food, but there is a nice scattering of recipes to tempt you. As a history and art book, this would be five stars easily--as a cookbook, not so much. There isn't an index or anything to help you find what you want recipe-wise. You just have to flip through the book to find them. This book is well worth it, though, for everything else that is included. This is a thoroughly fascinating book!!

I received a copy of this book from Schiffer Publishing for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
