A midnight call to duty brings Captain America aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D Heli-carrier to identify the corpse of his most feared adversary: the Red Skull! The shocking murder of Cap's oldest enemy may not be the end of the Skull's plans, however, because whoever shot the Skull has stolen his final project: an unfinished Cosmic Cube with the potential power to alter reality itself. Adding to the imminent danger, a cadre of the Skull's followers has already set in motion a plan to ignite bombs in the hearts of Paris, London and Manhattan - causing untold death and destruction. Racing against these bombs' rapidly ticking clocks, the Star-Spangled Avenger must not only solve the mystery of his nemesis' murder, but find the Cube before it can be used in the Red Skull's malevolent plot against the United States! Then, the questions plaguing Captain America's dreams and memories have been answered in the most brutal way possible. And in the wake of this brutality, General Lukin makes his first all-out assault - tearing open old wounds and threatening to make new scars that will never heal!

This one of te best "come back " stories ever wrote in comics . Yes, many suck , but Brubaker makes this story click . The exploding plane, the sub , brainwashing .This is a very good 'COLD WAR " story, that works on many levels. This is the story that brought me back to comics after 40 years . now in one book , it makes great reading . If you havent read a CAPTAIN AMERICA book in years , do read this . How they brought back a character in such awesome manner with the RED SKULL as the ultimae bad guy is great . after you read this book, I suggest you read REBORN .Still much story is left btween theses two books , no matter, any age should love this this book !

An epic story excellently masterfully written by Ed Brubaker and complimented by soulful, intense artwork this is one of the best books I've read this year. A comic for the more mature comic book reader the story spans different decades and continents with a wealth of characters in memorable scenarios as a brooding, intense Captain America pieces together a puzzle of many moving parts in his pursuit of a cold war myth as his mind is manipulated by the a evil ogliarch this book has it all- evil mega corporations, flashbacks both false and real, super assassins and a Captain America who stands up and takes care of business. They don't write them like this anymore no panel is wasted and no storyline unwanted. Excellent. If you only read one graphic Novel this year make sure it is this one. Pure quality from beginning to end.

    Necessary Read!!!!

I was blown away by this comic book. Normally when I buy a comic book, I read it once and don't look at it again. But this time, I haven't really put it down. The characters are incredibly well developed and portrayed. It was beautiful. The emotions ran high and it was impossible to put down. For anyone who's in love with captain america and is prepared for heartbreak.
