Overview

Tucked amid the pages of The London List, a newspaper that touts the city's scandals, is a vaguely-worded ad for an intriguing job—one that requires a most wickedly uncommon candidate. . .

Maris has always been grateful that her marriage to the aging Earl of Kelby saved her from spinsterhood. Though their union has been more peaceful than passionate, she and the earl have spent ten happy years together. But his health is quickly failing, and unless Maris produces an heir, Kelby's conniving nephew will inherit his estate. And if the earl can't get the job done himself, he'll find another man who can. . .

Captain Reynold Durant is known for both his loyalty to the Crown and an infamous record of ribaldry. Yet despite a financial worry of his own, even he is reluctant to accept Kelby's lascivious assignment—until he meets the beautiful, beguiling Maris. Incited by duty and desire, the captain may be just the man they are looking for. But while he skillfully takes Maris to the heights of ecstasy she has longed for, she teaches him something even more valuable and unexpected. . .

Looks at the rusty blad dubtfully and hands her some WD-40. "Here. Next raid is paradise res twenty. At that pace is basicly everything you need. That place used to be called pirate cove. All the pirates went there in their free time and bought random stuff. When I was young, I bought a sling shot. I put a ball of ice doused in oil in the sling shot and lit it on fire. Everyone paniced and the place went up in flames. Everyone but me forgot that this pace is fireproof just in case this happens..." he said, looking away. "Whats wrong Silver?"

Scandalous Delight! I really enjoyed reading CAPTAIN DURANT'S COUNTESS written by Maggie Robinson. This is the second book that I read by this writer, having read IN THE ARMS OF THE HEIRESS, which I found captivating. Again, it doesn't surprise me, to have so much fun reading this novel! Ms. Robinson writes stories set in the Regency era that are always a delight to enjoy! It's the story of Maris, wife of the Earl of Kelby and Captain Reynold Durant. Maris is married to the aging Kelby and has to give him an heir in order to keep her husband's estate if he dies. Since, he is old and sick, he decides to ask the service of this man.....Captain Durant...to help him with this dilemma! Reynold accepts this "job" but when he meets Marris....things change! You need to read this story to know what happened. I had to giggle when I read some passages in this story like this one: When Maris, asked the butler, for a book to read and he answered " Nothing the likes of you would enjoy, my lady! More pictures than words, if you take my meaning" . Beautiful sensual chemistry between Marris and Reynold. This novel is very well written, the words are flowing. Ms. Robinson created an amusing plot and you will fall in love with her two main characters. The end was predictable but I loved it..If you love novels set in the Regency era which are filled with love and passion, then this book is perfect for you. I highly recommend both this author's books and I am looking forward to read LADY ANNE'S LOVER.

CAPTAIN DURANT'S COUNTESS by Maggie Robinson is an exciting historical romance set in 1820 London. #2 in the "London List",but can be read as a stand alone. See,"Lord Gray's List". A strange request from an Earl for Durant to perform with his lady wife for a large sum of money. The money is needed for Durant to help his ailing sister. Follow Captain Reynold Durant and Maris, the wife of the aging Earl of Kelby on a journey of secrets, passionate embraces and finally possible love. Fast paced and filled with hot sex scenes, and romance. Lady Kelby must decide rather she wants love and contentment or a title after she becomes a widow. Reye wants to be a gentleman who breeds horses, and the woman he has fallen in love with. But can they have all they want? A very different take on romance and love. A very difficult challenge for both Reye and Maris. An enjoyable read with twists and turns. I love this author's stories. She is a great storyteller who writes engaging, and intriguing plots with believable characters. I would recommend this title. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley. Countess Maris Kelby has a compatible marriage. Her husband, like a father figure, married her as an act of protection. Unable to consummate their marriage, they’ve had an intellectual and peaceful relationship. After years of comfort, the Earl of Kelby is aging and realizes that he has no heir. The inheritance and control of the family's vast museum worthy collection will go to his nephew, a man the Earl despises. In an attempt to produce an heir, the Earl hires Captain Reynold Durant to get his wife with child. Reyn is known for his service to the Crown and being loyal. Reyn’s sister is extremely ill and he can’t afford to help her until this unconventional and scandalous offer arises. Desperate to help his sister, Reyn agrees. He never expected to be so drawn to this innocent 34 year old woman. Teaching each other to live again, they find themselves in a precarious situation...even though a friendship and more has begun to grow between them Maris belongs to the Earl of Kelby and the Kelby line. This was a charming slow growing historical romance. With all the back ground mechanizations, Reyn is amazingly gentle and kind...even offer friendship when Maris is so isolated by her station in life. I enjoy this story. I found it extremely entertaining. There was a few modern day phrases that might upset those who like to keep totally true to the times dialect but I didn’t find it distracting. Captain Durant’s Countess was an immensely pleasurable and charming read. This ARC copy of Captain Durant's Countess was given to me by Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review. Publish Date February 21, 2013.
