Being a Carol Danvers fan for over 15 years I have been waiting for a great series based on the character, especially when you are going as far as giving her the tile of: "Captain Marvel". Kelly Sue is a fantastic writer she has really captured Carol's character and enriched history and created a great solo series for our warbird. If you love strong writing, well crafted stories, major character moments and great art. I highly recommend this trade. I will be getting the next few volumes as soon as they come out.

Good story. Explores the limits of the Marvel power. Artwork transitions too much.

This book is a well written adventure story that is let down by the contrasting artwork. The artwork in the first half of the book is brilliant especially in the underwater scenes but the anime style in the second half is a shock to the system and Marvel really dropped the ball there. A shame really because the story is good and the writing well crafted and the Marvel universe is screaming out for a cool, strong female hero but as long as the reader is presented two contrasting visions by the artists - including perception angles, textures and moods - than Captain Marvel will suffer and the void will never be filled. A potentially good book that became blah at the turn of a page.

Carol Danvers is a very interesting character who I've always enjoyed. Her series written by Brian Reed was very good. Here, the first collection in her new series wasn't. The plot was contrived and the dangers faced were, at times, ludicrous. The art was too dark for a book like this and didn't exactly gel. Overall, not a very strong beginning for a character who deserves better.
