Dav Pilkey's caped crusader, Captain Underpants, is fighting the grossest and greenest villain yet in the first of a two-part set that's sure to turn your stomach -- and keep you laughing the whole time.
With Pilkey's patented Flip-O-Ramas and loads of phlegmy humor, The Night of the Nasty Nostril Nuggets follows the rise and fall of the Bionic Booger Boy (until Part 2, that is), from his meager beginnings as snot-nosed Melvin Sneedly to the mucus monster that goes on a serious rampage. The tale begins when Melvin creates the Combine-O-Tron 2000, a machine that melds living beings with robots. But when the geeky inventor sets out to make himself into the most powerful boy ever, a snotty mishap turns him instead into a "greenish, glistening behemoth." Things at school are mostly hunky-dory at first -- aside from the snot on the drinking fountains -- until cold and flu season begins. The Bionic Booger Boy's contact with tissues causes a nasty reaction, but thankfully, Captain Underpants and a little help from an unlikely character put the mutant boy back to normal -- well, almost.
Pilkey's "sixth epic novel," this delightfully disgusting C.U. episode will have you rolling in the aisles. "Squishy action! Smooshy horror! Gooey laffs!" are just the ticket for any kid looking for a gut-busting pick-me-up, and what parent wouldn't want their child to read about a brave hero fighting the forces of boogerdom? A "pick" of the lists that can't be missed. Matt Warner
