**Warning** This book contains adult language and situations.

Two years ago, Jason and Kate Ryker were brought together by grief and bound to one another by love. Now married, they're confronting their fears together.
But heartbreak finds them again, and the ties that bind Kate and Ryke are tested as she struggles against fear and sadness. As a grief counselor, Kate understands all too well the pain of her clients. And while her husband's career as an NHL forward is at an all-time high, he's coping with the frustration of feeling powerless as his wife's hopes slip away.
Kate's unexpected journey sheds light on the fear that imprisons her, and reveals that only she can set herself free.

I have been anxiously waiting for Captive and I was not disappointed. I literally could not put it down once I started. It is now after 4:00 am and I haven't gone to bed yet. I fell in love with Ryke & Kate in Bound and now after reading Captive there are even more characters that have a place in my heart. Brenda Rothert is one of my favorite authors, she somehow manages to bring out every emotion when I read her books.

I fell in love with Ryke and Kate in Bound. Their tragic stories of love and loss brought them together. And I was ready to dive into Captive and see where their story continued. Well, Brenda did it AMAZINGLY!! Just when you thought you couldn't love these two characters anymore. Well, she made you love them even more.

I love the characters of these books and the way they have developed throughout the story. Also the fact that the story and the characters are believable, adds a touch of tenderness, understanding and helps you live their lives along with them.
I cried -sad and happy- tears for these two, I rejoiced when things were going their way and I even got upset a couple of times.
I love the flow of the story and yes, we have a bit more of sexy times on this book, which I didn't mind at all.

This chapter in the Kate & Ryke's poignant love story did not disappoint. It it is filled with plenty of laughter, tears, joy and heartache. You will root for them and want to pull your hair out at other times, especially with Kate. She is not selfish, just scared and in spite of the fact she is a grief counselor; she cannot find the strength early on to address her issues. You see the duo take steps forward and backwards, but ultimately you get the HEA. Run, don't walk to grab this story.

Brenda Rothert does a great job in this book of showing two people who are grieving different losses and how they are trying to continue on in their lives.  What happened to both of them was sad, however, Kate seemed to have a much harder time learning to try to live and move forward with her life.  She was a little too over the top for me at some points and, though I felt sympathetic, I felt she needed to quit having a pity party and fight for happiness in her life.  For a psych major, she lacked some basic coping skills and that had me frustrated more than a couple of times.

This Book Will Hold You CAPTIVE! ~ Fire on Ice is the right name for this series because it is definitely hot. Brenda Rothert has the ability to bring sex scenes alive like no other author I've read. Step by step, sensation by sensation...and her characters don't hold anything back. But it definitely is not all about the sex. It's about the relationship. And it's about the individuals' growth. Rothert makes you feel along with both Kate and Ryke, the anxiety, the heartbreak, and the joy. I also love the relationships she builds between her main characters and secondary characters. After finishing CAPTIVE I immediately purchased the third in the series, EDGE, and am already halfway through it!

5 Heart Checking Stars!! TITLE~ Captive (Fire on Ice #2) AUTHOR~ Brenda Rothert GENRE~ NA Romance/Sports PUBLISHER/DATE PUB.~ January 27th 2014 COST/PURCHASED~ Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review MY RATING~ 5/5 MY THOUGHTS~ I chose this book because I loved the first one in this series -Bound.  This second installment was a beautiful continuation of Ryke and Kate's story. The story held me CAPTIVE from the very first page. It was very well written. I did find some things somewhat predictable, however, this did not take away from my enjoyment. I was blown away by the first major event in the story though! The author definitely snuck that one in on me.  Overall, this book was well written and the story was wonderful. It reaches out and captures your heart in the beginning and doesn't let go until the very end.  I will most definitely be grabbing the 3rd book the minute it becomes available!!

Love the way kate and ryke are so in love. They go through the storm like normal people but always found a way to make it together. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Gritty, honest, fresh. Ms. Rothert knows how to put together a real story about real people. Captive will pull you in, make you cry and leave you satisfied yet wanting more. I can not wait to dig into Luke's book in Edge (Fire on Ice).

I loved being back with Kate & Ryke.  It was really intriguing to see what happened after their happily ever after.  This instalment was much more emotional than the first.  Rothert combines the hot & steamy that we’ve come to know and love her for along with heartbreak and intense emotions.  There was a lot more sweet infused among the spice in this one.  Her vivid descriptions bring everything to life in an exquisite way. I quite enjoyed the way that we got to know Kate and Ryke better in this one.  They grow as individuals and as a couple.  I must say, however, that Kate got on my nerves more than once.  I loved seeing more of Luke as well.  Rothert really takes the time to develop her supporting cast in this one.  It gives a greater depth to the story as a whole. As a whole, this was a well written, emotional tale that held my heart.  It was a quick, enjoyable read that followed up from the first in the series quite nicely.  I’d definitely recommend it to others and I definitely can’t wait to read Luke’s story in the 3rd story.   Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
