Editorial Reviews
From The Critics
Reviewer: Stephen P. Prater, MD(Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine)Description: This is a refreshing book that reviews the clinical approach to cardiac arrhythmias from the perspective of an electrophysiologist.
Purpose: The purpose is to integrate basic cardiac electrophysiologic concepts to the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias. It gives the reader a comprehensive understanding of the mechanism underlying the arrhythmia and focuses on the application of this information into the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
Audience: This text is ideally suited for students and residents learning about arrhythmias, yet it is comprehensive enough for the practicing cardiologist. As electrophysiologists, the authors give an in-depth approach appropriate for all clinicians.
Features: The numerous tracings used in this text, including simultaneous transthoracic and intracardiac recordings, are extremely valuable in the understanding of arrhythmias. This feature, usually found only in subspecialty texts, allows difficult concepts to be more readily understood. Appropriate references are given for those seeking a more detailed explanation.
Assessment: Clinically, this book is very useful. It goes beyond the simple recognition of arrhythmias to an understanding of cellular electrophysiology. This deeper insight allows for easier comprehension when learning about arrhythmias and a more rational approach to the treatment of these arrhythmias. I believe this approach is absolutely necessary for all clinicians treating patients with these disorders.

A comprehensive textbook on an integrated approach to cardiac arrhythmias for individuals without a background in clinical electrophysiology. It presents a practical application of theoretical information and stresses electrocardiographic correlates of clinical electrophysiologic observations. The volume is divided into four parts: basic electrocardiographic observations and clinical electrophysiologic correlates; arrhythmias; clinical presentations; and methods and therapy. Highly illustrated in b&w with four color plates. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR booknews.com4 Stars! from Doody
