Assessment: With chapters covering the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic areas, this is a very useful update of the previous edition.
Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Caleb Daniel Thompson, M.D.(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is the fourth edition of a book that covers the most important cardiovascular topics in a practical question-and-answer format.
Purpose: The purpose is to educate healthcare providers on the evaluation and management of patients with cardiovascular disease in an interactive and high-yield manner.
Audience: The target audience includes healthcare providers who wish to reinforce and expand their knowledge base in order to succeed both in practice and on board and recertification exams.
Features: A key feature of this book, and all the books in the Secrets series, is the way it reviews familiar topics. The question-and-answer format provides succinct and practical answers to the most common questions in cardiology. Additionally, the book begins with 100 of the most pertinent concepts found on board and recertification exams. The last section is an excellent reference for miscellaneous cardiovascular symptoms and diseases; the chapters on cardiovascular manifestations of connective tissue disorders and syncope are particularly useful.
Assessment: This book provides an efficient and interactive review of important cardiovascular topics.
From the Publisher
"With chapters covering the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic areas, this is a very useful update of the previous edition." — Surya M Artham, MD, MPH (Ochsner Clinic Foundation), Doody’s Review

"It is exceptionally easy reading, which, minding the complexity of the issues addressed, is one of the major advantages of this book over many other 'overviews'. It is designed for juniored and middle grade doctors who wish to build their basic knowledge of clinical cardiology and cardiac investigations and other healthcare providers who wish to educate themselves in diagnosing and managing patients with cardiovascular disease. It may also serve as a refresher of 'common sense' knowledge to cardiology trainees and other senior specialists who may find some useful 'pearls' and forgotten tips... It was a great pleasure to review this book as it gave me some new insights into the cardiovascular field and presented an opportunity to enjoy the reading... I would recommend it to my junior colleagues as a fun and alternative option to the main clinical textbooks."
