Cardiac cases represent a large proportion of the small animal patients in most practices. However patients often initially merely show symptoms of a "chest complaint", which could represent either a cardiac or pulmonary problem. This book provides a practical guide for practitioners faced with such cases. Written in an easily accessible note form the book uses a practical approach considering the symptoms first and then the possible causes

Reviewer: Donald R. Krawiec, DVM, MS, PhD (University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine)
Description: This combines cardiology and respiratory medicine for the dog and cat as a unified concept. The information is presented in 23 chapters and 2 appendixes.
Purpose: The aim of this book is to provide an overall review of our current understanding of cardiac and respiratory diseases. It succeeds in this goal admirably.
Audience: The author states that this book will act as a suitable practical reference for veterinarians, undergraduate students, and colleagues studying for higher clinical qualifications. The work represents the author's experience in private and university referral practice.
Features: This book is adequately illustrated with clear photographs line drawings and tables. The book is divided into four sections. The first section uses a problem-solving approach to introduce cardiopulmonary medicine. The second discusses the main syndromes of cardiorespiratory medicine. The third covers major disease of the heart and lungs, and the last covers basic therapeutics. I found the list of abbreviations in the front and the last three chapters covering therapeutics and cardiopulmonary resuscitation particularly useful. The references are located at the back of the book and are adequate
Assessment: I believe this may be the only book available that details a combined approach to cardiopulmonary medicine. It is long overdue and I hope this approach is followed by other experts in this field. I would recommend it for practitioners and students.
