Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Don A Davis, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This book is based on and expanded from chapters in the cardiovascular section in Pathy's Principles and Practice of Geriatric Medicine, 5th edition, Sinclair et al. (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012).
Purpose: It addresses cardiovascular disease in the elderly, a worthy goal as the prevalence of heart disease continues to increase in this group.
Audience: The book is specifically designed as a resource for general practitioners, cardiovascular specialists, and hospital-based clinicians caring for geriatric patients.
Features: It covers all facets of cardiovascular disease in the elderly, with each chapter addressing a major disease subject (e.g. hypertension, lipid management, heart failure, etc.). A special highlight, and unique to this book, is a chapter devoted to planning cardiovascular interventions in the elderly. The book is extensively illustrated.
Assessment: Because it specifically addresses cardiovascular disease in the elderly this is a useful addition to the literature.
From the Publisher
