Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: John Furiasse, MD (Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine)
Description: This book on the various classes of cardiovascular drugs reviews the pharmacology and pathophysiology of each class and discusses their clinical relevance.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide clinicians and pharmacologists with an understanding of the rational use of cardiovascular drugs.
Audience: The appropriate audience for this book is cardiologists and research scientists. The book is too detailed for the general practitioner.
Features: All of the illustrations are black-and-white and are easy to read and comprehend. Only one of the graphs was mislabeled, and the rest were accurate and visually appealing. Most of the chapters, which were written by multiple contributors, had numerous current references.
Assessment: This book provides the reader with an extensive review of various classes of pharmacological agents used to treat all aspects of cardiovascular diseases. Even though the early chapters deal with the fundamentals of drug action, the majority of the book emphasizes clinical therapeutics integrated with pharmacology and pathophysiology. This is an excellent reference book that every cardiologist should have in his of her library.
