Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer: Geoffrey F Lewis, MD(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is a case-based examination of current evidence and practice patterns for common cardiovascular conditions encountered in emergency situations.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a framework for approaching commonly encountered cardiovascular emergencies.
Audience: It is intended for medical students, advanced practice clinicians, physicians in training, and practicing emergency physicians. It also may be of interest to other providers involved in the care of patients with cardiovascular emergencies. The editors and contributors are highly experienced in the clinical practice of emergency medicine and related fields.
Features: Six sections cover the most common cardiac emergencies, including myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, vascular complications, and surgical complications. Each chapter follows the same format — case presentation, a transcript of the ensuing discussion by an expert panel (actual transcripts of experts discussing each case is a unique feature of this book), a discussion of background concepts, and management with diagnosis and treatment algorithms. The presentation of background data and the clinical evidence used to make clinical decisions will help readers retain information.
Assessment: This is an excellent tool for reviewing the diagnosis and management of common cardiovascular emergencies. This book is particularly effective because of its use of real-life examples.
From the Publisher
