Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Bernard J. Turnock, MD, MPH (University of Illinois at Chicago)
Description: This book presents information on a wide variety of risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease and their medical management through the extensive use of charts and graphics.
Purpose: The authors' expressed intent is to promote clinical preventive medicine through an enhanced understanding of the various cardiovascular disease risk factors and their management. This important aim is achieved through the use of concise narrative material together with extensive use of graphics and figures. The book also addresses some of the lesser well-known risk factors.
Audience: The intended audience for this book is primary care providers, but public health professionals will also find it useful and interesting. The book avoids extensive narrative description and thereby should appeal to a wide range of health professionals.
Features: The book incorporates very clear and generally effective graphics and figures. The book's conciseness, graphics, and attractive appearance are very positive features. References are appropriate and generally up-to-date. Both the exterior and interior of the book are more appealing than most others on this subject.
Assessment: This is a solid, concise book. It is clearly presented and easy to follow and understand. It should prove both readable and understandable to many audiences, thereby promoting preventive medicine in clinical practice. Linking epidemiological risk factors with their possible cardiovascular outcome helps bridge the differences between public health and clinical approaches to one of today's most important disease entities.
