Overview

How to tell if a man is an unrepentant rogue:

1. He has no patience for frivolous debutantes
2. He kisses you after a single dance
3. He makes you forget yourself and kiss him back . . .

After years away from London, Captain Bennett Wolfe is back—and alive, much to Society's surprise. Having been presumed dead, this rugged adventurer is now much sought after by every marriage-minded young woman . . . but Bennett only has eyes for the intriguing Lady Phillipa Eddison.

Phillipa would rather read than flirt, but she does know a thing or two about proper courtship rituals. A gentleman does not kiss a lady senseless, and he certainly does not bring his pet monkey when he comes calling. Lady Phillipa's ever been so scandalized . . . or tempted. She simply must teach Bennett some manners—before she succumbs to temptation as wild as the man who offers it.

Meet the Author

A native and current resident of Southern California, Suzanne Enoch loves movies almost as much as she loves books. She once appeared on an E! special, Star Wars Is Back, as an expert on the romance in the Star Wars movies. Other highlights include winning her third grade spelling bee, receiving an E.T. poster and T-shirt in an alien-inspired poetry contest, and submitting a script for The A-Team (which was not why the series was cancelled). When she is not busily working on her next novel, Suzanne likes to contemplate interesting phenomena, like how the three guppies in her aquarium became 161 guppies in five months.

    A Great Romantic Adventure

My guilty pleasure is reading romance novels. As someone with a lot of "literary" writing courses under my belt, I'm taught that romance novels are one of the lowest forms of fiction. But I beg to differ and writers like Enoch help my argument. After all, Pride and Prejudice might poke fun at society, but it is a romance novel, isn't it? And it's a classic! Enoch knows a thing or two about good writing. She certainly understands character point of view and white space. She also gets what her readers want: strong female leads; daringly handsome, but complex male leads; witty humor and action. I would have liked Enoch to take us into the jungle, but I did love the journal entries at the beginning of each chapter (nice structure). From a historical stand point it may break a few rules, but all in all you don't really care as you're having too much of a good time just reading the story. That's what it's all about anyway - having a good time and enjoying the characters. That's why we buy these books. I will certainly seek out other novels by Enoch.

You will enjoy reading this book. Via the romance the storyline considers the question of who is civilized and who is not.

Is it the members of the ton who follow prescribed proper behavior yet defile servant girls? Who hunt foxes for sport or kill large game for stuffing? Is it a peer who leaves his companion for dead and puts his name on the deceased's manuscript to gain fame and fortune? By these few examples, famed explorer Capt. Bennett Wolfe is uncivilized. He has survived the spear wound, returns to London and learns of David Langley's thievery. He roars in anger and protests loudly at gatherings; he goes everywhere with the monkey he has raised tenderly. What's more, he spies bluestocking Lady Phillipa (Flip) Eddison, a woman he wants for her beauty, body and brains, and he wastes no time telling her so. (Phillipa is rather unconventional herself and she reciprocates Bennett's ardor). But Flip is so discounted by everyone that no one - even she - believes that Bennett's intentions can be real. When she attempts to teach him the rules it is so that he won't be dismissed by the ton as a wild adventurer. There are others who support Bennett, besides Phillipa. If they can find the other manuscripts that Langley has hidden then Bennett can clear his name. How they do that leads to a thrilling ending.

    A charmer

Explorer Sir Bennett Wolfe returns home to find out a horrific truth awaiting him. Five months ago his friend on the expedition Captain David Langley had stabbed him with a spear in his gut; after assuming Bennett was dead, the scoundrel stole his journals. He has since become wealthy with the money he made on his publication.

Lady Phillipa "Flip" Eddison is a fan of the Langley books and their expeditions and would relish going on a trek with him. However, when she meets Bennett, she finds she believes his assertion that he wrote the journals. She offers to help him prove his case even as they fall in love. When her beloved is threatened, Flip does whatever it takes including risking her life and reputation to keep him safe.

Although Sir Bennett is not quite the scoundrel or rogue of the Notorious Gentlemen in Suzanne Enoch's recent super Regencies, Sir Bennett is a terrific lead character with a thirst for vengeance while the heroine flips his life upside down. She proves more than his equal as Flip demonstrates a propensity in The Care And Taming Of A Rogue. With a villain willing to kill to remain rich, famous and popular fans will enjoy Sir Bennett's attempts to prove he is the hero and author of the journals and deserving of Flip's adulation, esteem and love just like she has earned his.

    Terrible!

I couldn't get past the first chapter! This book was very hard to get into. I couldn't get past the hero walking around with a monkey on his neck all the time. Waste of money. By far Enoch's worst book--very lackluster

    Too Much Fluff

This book was okay. There was a lot of talk about Africa and bla blah blah. I did like the characters though.
