    The Real Deal

I was fortunate enough to hear Mr. Arruda Speak. He is the leader in this new movement. He invented personal branding and is the most enthusiastic believer in its power to transform people's lives. This book follows the same process he describes in his keynote. He is more inspirational in person, but you get some of that passion and commitment from the book. I recommend seeing him speak and using the book to take what you heard and start acting on it. Personal branding has become really important. Take William Arruda's words seriously.

    Makes lots of sense

In this day and age of corporate America's mentality of "disposable employees" to solve their economic problems, you need to take a different approach in your workplace. Why not think of yourself like a sport star or movie star, brand yourself. Plus, if you've ever wondered why people with less going for them never get laid-off or get promoted, it's likely they have used some of the techniques outlined in this book. So join them and beat them at their own game!

    Become Indispensible

Whether you are just starting your career, changing careers, or want to polish your professional image, Career Distinction is an excellent guide to developing your personal brand. Branding generally conjures up images of products like Tide and Coca Cola or Nike, but a personal brand has more to do with credibility, visibility and personal style than product. Building and nurturing a personal brand is essential, particularly as information is more and more available through the web. Career Distinction outlines a proven process for personal brand development created by William Arruda and Kirsten Dixson. It is a step by step guide to help professionals stand out and become indispensable, memorable and successful. Career Distinction covers face to face networking (in and outside of your company), professional online networking (through sites like LinkedIn or Ryze and through article publication), but does not go into detail on the development of a social media (online) strategy. Arruda and Dixson offer a free personal brand assessment called 360Reach that is excellent and well worth the cost of the book.

    Brand yourself correctly

Distinguishing yourself from the crowd can be challenging these days but 'Career Distinction' does a great job in showing you ways that can definitely help. I found the book to be informative in several ways. For example, did you know that people have an online identity that can either help or hurt their brand image? Do you have a true meaning of who you are and do you convey your brand clearly, consistently, and with constancy? The book takes you through a process that will help you find your true meaning and then help you exude that meaning through various mediums. Excellent for ambitious people in all professions!

The book on personal branding for career success

Its 10 years ago this summer that Tom Peters first coined the phrase - personal branding' in his Fast Company article the Brand Called You -and its been a long time coming - a book that finally takes you through a proven process. Personal branding is fast becoming THE tool to manage your career, assist your job search or help you grow your small business ¿ this book addresses the first two groups very well, but for the entrepreneur there is a lot of content that is not so relevant or requires adaptation. Arruda has spent a number of years building this process in to an accepted global standard through his own company and certified personal brand strategists around the world 'many of whom are listed in the back of the book'. Dixson adds to the richness of the book by incorporating her on line brand experience to cover the increasingly important area of existing on the web. This is certainly the most up to date and comprehensive personal branding books out there currently, that address' how to recognise, define and build your personal brand for career and/or job search success. The book also comes with a downloadable workbook with extra exercises and access to the highly popular 360 personal brand assessment - an invaluable opportunity to gather others perceptions of your brand 'although be warned you need to be quick to get results back and printed in the 15 days you have access'. All in all a well written and constructed guide for the savvy, self driven professional who is looking to have greater control over their career or looking for some actions that will make them stand out in the job market.
