Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Barbara Youngblood
This is a well thought out and attractively presented book for young people thinking of careers that would use their writing talents. Fifteen specific careers are detailed with interviews of people actually undertaking that type of work. Many hints are given to find the specific niche that would interest the reader. This volume would be useful in any English class but also in career counseling or school to career situations. The bibliography includes books and World Wide Web sources for more information. The book lends itself to so many ideas for future careers that it creates great excitement for what the future holds. I am anxious to see the other books in the " Career Ideas for Kids Who Like....." series.
School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5-9-A look at 15 alphabetically arranged writing careers ranging from advertising copywriter to talk show producer. For each choice, there is an introduction to the profession; an exercise to see if it is suitable for the reader; addresses, phone numbers, and Internet sites of related organizations; suggested readings; and a profile of someone working in the field. This book is loaded with good information that acts like a road map for children who want to know what classes and experiences would be most helpful in order to pursue a career that interests them. It also is a good source for career/community worker assignments.-Barb Lawler, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, PA
