School Library Journal
Gr 7-12-- Four books that provide interesting, easily understandable, and readable overviews of career choices. Each guide covers 14 jobs in a particular field with Kaplan interviewing actively employed individuals who describe what they do, how they got started, their feelings, and give sound recommendations for getting similar positions. In addition, 12 alternative career possibilities are defined in each area, and organizations to contact are listed. The variety of jobs gives a good sense of the options available. Fair to good quality black-and-white photos show people of diverse ethnic groups at work, but the tinted ones that introduce the chapters are dark, often unclear, and hard to decipher. All of the books are suitable for students looking for report information, as well as for teens who are figuring out where to target their energies. Attractive covers feature color photographs, but the juvenile format may turn away YAs. Still, these are valuable introductions to career choices. --Diane P. Tuccillo, Mesa Public Library, AZ
